Long-time #anime fan, starting with the original US broadcasts of Astro Boy and 8th Man.
I present programs and panels at conventions like #penguicon.
I don't watch a lot of shonen anime.
I'm a superfan of #precure, an all-ages magical girl metaseries
People I talk to have no idea that fan-run conventions exist. They see con cosplay photos and meeting media stars, but nothing like the crazy variety that is Penguicon.
Getting out to libraries, or maybe getting a nonprofit table at a local event is probably better than paid advertising.

I know on mastodon you can post to public, "quiet public", followers, or a list of specific people. On bsky it looks like you can choose who can reply.

Under Settings > Moderation you can filter for terms / hashtags, and people, I think.

Sources of instrument hate- I suspect accordions got it because of Lawrence Welk broadcasts when there was 1 TV in the house. Banjos were used a lot in jazz and a host of other genres- then Deliverance aired. Recorders because grade-school screeching- beginning violinists sound even worse!

If you've been watching anime for decades, you've probably gotten uncommonly good at subtitles. Commercial cons heavily feature dub voice actors. You may be following certain directors, or less-common genres- programming and merch may not be for your shows, and cons can be expensive.

Mayu has had the most incredible arc! Episode 43 was amazing, and I'm sure there's more to come.

Everytime I see that first opening it makes me think of the Sakura-Chan Memorial. It shows Tomoyo directing and recording the first opening. Sakura keeps asking what it's for.
At the end, she shows the 35 tapes of the series, and says it will be on TV.

I often recommend Gunsmith Cats to adults as a first anime, especially if they like action. It's fun, got great pacing, and they don't have to decode any Japanese culture.

They've modernized COBOL but most of the code is going to be old. The idea behind it was that a manager who didn't know computers could look at the code and see what it was doing. It seemed like that might be the way things would work, but in practice it didn't work that way.
