Great column, as always. I think you have one error, likely due to auto-correct: Last sentence in the paragraph where you mention your second point of contempt: “They are not entitled to our respect and administration.” I think that is supposed to end with “admiration.”

I think this is exactly right. That would have been a defendable reason to vote yes before the shutdown began. I wouldn’t have liked it, but I could understand it. Not now, when voters clearly support the Dem position.
