Yes and the BBC leadership has acknowledged those errors but no leadership will prevent all errors - or seeming errors in a deeply contested space. It’s important to be clear that there is also a concerted campaign against the BBC tied to non state actors IEA and competitors GBNews and Farage

Others like Johnson are just cynics but many enablers on the right think the real conspiracy is a left liberal metropolitan elite created by university types ( like me ) determined to frustrate the honest majority- the reality of UK public opinion is so much more complex…👆

The trouble is he comes from a wing of the right who genuinely believe that their policy views and values accord with the majority view of the people ‘common sense’ consequently the only reason this is not governing ideology is a left liberal

Exactly - this could be a direct criticism of Johnson, Farage and Truss for all we know (if so I’d be inclined to agree) but the venue of the story and it’s endorsements etc certainly gives it a less than wholesome spin.

… ‘merit’ hasn’t had a role in the selection of Sunday Times commentators most (if not all) my adult life… but presumably Syed was select through a fair and open process on the back of his superlative CV and broad experience. I just don’t recall seeing the advert.👆

To be fair to Syed he has come out against group think by supporting Badenoch and the Tories - he still has the option of moving further to the right but so far ‘definitely contrarian’…
