Elmo just started #Grokipedia. I took a quick look at the "racism" entry since I was wondering if it might be slightly(!!) biased. I asked #Grok, who would be a fairer judge, to compare the entry with #Wikipedia. The results speak for themselves...

AfD & BSW communicated almost exclusively in attack mode and heavily relied on migration issues. FDP & CDU joined that trend but were more positive across other issues. When focusing on “owned” topics (e.g. climate for Greens, social justice for SPD/Left), tone was mostly positive.

More than half of the videos addressed young people or future generations directly.

Most active: Greens & Left Party.
Most restrained: AfD & CDU/CSU.

Affordances like selfie mode, infographics, or interaction formats were used – but not consistently.

The Left Party stood out: most dancing, highest infographic use, creative remixing.

How did parties and politicians communicate during the 🇩🇪 federal election 25? Together with @dpzberlin.bsky.social & @bertelsmannst.bsky.social we analyzed 18,000+ videos on #Instagram & #TikTok focusing on how they addressed younger voters. spoiler: there is room for improvement 🧵👇

Together with the @machine-vs-rage.net team, I examined how group-focused enmity finds its way into memes and how that shapes their outreach on Telegram. Our chapter is part of a rich vol on visual communication with a stunning cover. And it’s #openaccess 👉 www.openbookpublishers.com/books/10.116...

Specifically, we found that more frequent media contact with refugees leads to more negative attitudes toward refugees from the Middle East among right-leaning respondents and to more positive views on refugees from Africa among left-leaning respondents.
March 4, 2025 at 9:43 AM
Our results show no significant main effects of media contact with refugee persons on attitudes nor do we find significant differences in the effects of media depending refugees' gender. Rather, our models suggest that respondents’ political orientation and refugees’ origin play a crucial role.

How do media portrayals of refugees affect attitudes toward immigration? Linking content analysis data with a panel survey we find that respondents’ political orientation and refugees’ origin play a crucial role indicating motivated reasoning. #openaccess 👉 www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... 🧵👇

Hej journalists, Elmo, Alice, and Hitler hit news values, but amplifying far-right provocations plays right into their hands. It might bring short-term clicks, but the long-term boomerang will hit—not only grabbing attention, fueling their agenda, but also undermining trust in the media.
