Coriolis is an apparent force that deflects motion to the right in the N hemisphere due to the Earth's rotation.

A mea culpa on my part. It should've been pressure gradient force (PGF) instead of Coriolis.
The end of the flag points to the direction of lower pressure, which is to the left in the northern Hemisphere. Higher winds = Stronger PGF. Higher PGF is likely found in fronts or cyclonic storms.
