I remember seeing some kind of interview with one of the guys who made it where he said he had the idea for Gears of War after playing paintball which gives me 'nerd plays paintball one time and immediately has fantasies of being an alpha war hero'.

I wonder if the popularity of Digital Circus has anything to do with this or there's just something Sega saturn-y in the air right now. The first time I heard of it i was like "oh this is kinda neat" and now im seeing fnaf or undertale levels of Fandom start to pop up around it even porn parodies.

This is me every time I relive something from my childhood. Tv, movies, video games. Did I even understand one single thing i consummed as a kid? How can my perspective alert be 90% simpsons references if I dont even remember any of it? 😭

What's also interesting is the variety on display. Most of these games are only part "raising sim" with other genres stapled over top: Dating Sim, baseball game, etc.

The hardest part was just figuring out that this genre even had a name, and what it was. Anyway that's it. I think it's neat!

What's interesting is that the most well-known series in the genre are famous for never getting released in English: Tokimeki Memorial, the Power Pros baseball games, the Idolmaster games, etc.

Even recent smaller titles like Volcano Princess, do have english translations, but they're ok at best

This is a genre that has been popular in Japan since the early 1990's but has never really crossed over to the English speaking world in a noticeable way.

Now, I am a poser. After watching Action Button's excellent Tokimeki Memorial video I became interested in the genre.
