What engine are you using? From my understanding, the LDTK metadata can be used to render the auto map with squares and char location like you show.

Theres a sample project called Gridvania that comes with LDTK. Maybe you could see if it canwork for your project?

Have you tried LDTK? I have some game dev friends that use it with success.

I used it on a Unity project once, and used the interface to make the map UI, with slight editing. ldtk.io

Yes! Im working on a project in Unreal Enigne that I will be using to try to blackout the card each month with progress, and get me to post about it too.
