FBI Says DC Pipe Bomb Suspect Brian Cole Kept Buying Bomb Parts After January 6
Federal agents on Thursday announced the arrest of a suspect charged with planting the two pipe bombs discovered near the US Capitol complex on the eve of January 6, 2021. Authorities identified the man as Brian J. Cole Jr., a resident of Woodbridge, Virginia. The arrest marks a major break in a case that has vexed authorities for nearly five years. Cole, 30, is charged with transporting an explosive device across state lines with the intent to kill, injure, intimidate, or destroy property and with attempting to damage and destroy the headquarters of the Republican and Democratic national committees by means of an explosive device.

Jon M. Chu Says AI Couldn’t Have Made One of the Best Moments in ‘Wicked’
If there’s anyone who understands the importance of viral marketing, it’s Wicked: For Good director Jon M. Chu. At WIRED’s Big Interview event in San Francisco, the onetime YouTuber and Crazy Rich Asians director said that working with acts like Justin Bieber taught him the value of connecting with fans online during the creation process. While directing Bieber’s concert film, Never Say Never, in the late aughts, Chu said the then-14-year-old star used Twitter to introduce Chu to fans. After Bieber posted a clip joking that the director was following him around on set, Chu told WIRED’s senior culture editor, Manisha Krishnan, he began to watch his online followers grow by tens of thousands of people almost instantly, something that really drove home the power of direct connection with a fan base.

Michael Calore: Well, Lauren, I'm sorry to tell you that you came back on the show just in time to talk about AI agents. I know. Lauren Goode: Great. Michael Calore: It's something that we've talked about a lot this year and our listeners have heard about it a lot, and we're not sick of talking about it. In fact, we have a very fun conversation about AI agents happening today.

A gastronomical pit stop: 'L'Arrêt' brings flavours from the American South to Paris
Award-winning chef Mashama Bailey and hospitality mastermind Johno Morisano are behind a Parisian restaurant where dishes pay tribute to a wealth of culinary traditions, from both sides of the Atlantic. They join us in the studio to talk about bringing corn and braised meats to a menu featuring French bistro classics, including the innovative pairing of foie gras and grits. Mashama and Johno tell us how setting up their restaurant "The Grey" in Savannah, Georgia was a formative experience, helping to refine their vision of gastronomy and hospitality. Plus we learn why "kitchens have a built-in soap opera", as films and TV series set in the world of fine dining dominate our screens. Source link

Huge Trove of Nude Images Leaked by AI Image Generator Startup’s Exposed Database
An AI image generator startup left more than 1 million images and videos created with its systems exposed and accessible to anyone online, according to new research reviewed by WIRED. The “overwhelming majority” of the images involved nudity and were “depicted adult content,” according to the researcher who uncovered the exposed trove of data, with some appearing to depict children or the faces of children swapped onto the AI-generated bodies of nude adults. Multiple websites—including MagicEdit and DreamPal—all appeared to be using the same unsecured database, says security researcher Jeremiah Fowler, who discovered the security flaw in October.

How Long Should You Stay in a Sauna? (2025)
Like cold plunging, sauna use isn’t suitable for everyone, however. If you have any heart, kidney, blood pressure, or respiratory concerns or are pregnant, you should avoid the sauna, for example. If you are unsure, you should always consult your doctor before use. And regardless of your level of sauna experience, if you feel lightheaded, nauseous, or uncomfortable in any way, you must leave the sauna immediately to avoid overheating or dehydration. Traditional Sauna Vs. Infrared Sauna How long you spend in a sauna also depends on what type of sauna you have, be it a traditional dry sauna, infrared sauna, or perhaps a steam sauna.

Four countries to boycott Eurovision 2026 as Israel cleared to compete | Eurovision
Ireland, Spain, Slovenia and the Netherlands will boycott next year’s Eurovision after Israel was given the all-clear to compete in the 2026 song contest despite calls by several participating broadcasters for its exclusion over the war in Gaza. No vote on Israel’s participation was held on Thursday at the general assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the body that organises the competition. Instead, participating broadcasters voted only to introduce new rules designed to stop governments and third parties from disproportionately promoting songs to influence voters. “A large majority of members agreed that there was no need for a further vote on participation and that the…

AI Slop Is Ruining Reddit for Everyone
A Reddit post about a bride who demands a wedding guest wear a specific, unflattering shade is sure to provoke rage, let alone one about a bridesmaid or mother of the groom who wants to wear white. A scenario where a parent asks someone on an airplane to switch seats so they can sit next to their young child is likely to invoke the same rush of anger. But those posts may trigger a Reddit moderator’s annoyance for a different reason—they are common themes within a growing genre of AI…

The best poetry books of 2025 | Poetry
Many of 2025’s most notable collections have been powered by a spirit of wild experimentation, pushing at the bounds of what “poetry” might be thought to be. Sarah Hesketh’s 2016 (CB Editions) is a fabulous example: it takes 12 interviews with a variety of anonymous individuals about the events of that year and presents fragments of the transcripts as prose poems. The cumulative effect of these voices is haunting and full of pathos, as “they vote for whoever, and their life stays exactly the same”. Luke Kennard and Nick Makoha also daringly remixed their source material and inspirations.

GoTrax Mustang Electric Bike Review: Punchy and Tiny
And though it only has a one-sided kickstand as opposed to a scooter-style underframe stand, the bike’s aforementioned short wheelbase means it never felt unstable when I hopped off and kicked the stand down. It also comes with a nifty little setting that’ll give you a little extra boost while walking the bike. Again, if you’re pushing a ~50-pound bike uphill, you might need some extra oomph. Other than the ultra-cool, deep-red-logo-on-flat-metallic paint job, the real showstopper on the Mustang is its control system, which features a stunning, full-color LCD display that shows in real time your speed, remaining battery, pedal assist level, odometer, and how much of the motor’s available 750 watts are being used at any given moment.

Here’s What You Should Know About Launching an AI Startup
Julie Bornstein thought it would be a cinch to implement her idea for an AI startup. Her résumé in digital commerce is impeccable: VP of ecommerce at Nordstrom, COO of the startup Stitch Fix, and founder of a personalized shopping platform acquired by Pinterest. Fashion has been her obsession since she was a Syracuse high schooler inhaling spreads in Seventeen and hanging out in local malls. So she felt well-positioned to create a company for customers to discover the perfect garments using AI. The reality was much harder than she expected.

‘He played with language better than anybody’: Terry Gilliam and John Boorman on Tom Stoppard | Movies
Terry Gilliam: ‘He was an absolute magnet and his parties were joyous’ I was utterly knocked out by the way Tom Stoppard’s mind worked, his brilliance and by the fact he made Brazil out of a big lump of stone that I’d spent a year or two preparing. I gave that to him and out of that he carved a beautiful Michelangelo David. How I came to him was this: I was walking down the street and suddenly it hit me, Tom Stoppard. Something just clicked and I thought, “God, with my visual skills and his verbal skills, we might make a decent movie.” I spent a year or two writing up what I was trying to say, the story I was trying to tell.

This Is Lorelei: Holo Boy review – sweet-sad songs from a new pearl of the US alt scene | Indie
As one half of Brooklyn-based duo Water From Your Eyes, Nate Amos makes left-field pop that feels hypermodern: wry, memey lyricism; post-ironic genre-hopping; the kind of jilted chaos and tonal jumble that characterises a social media feed. Yet the band had actually been plugging away for seven years before their 2023 breakthrough. Amos’s solo project This Is Lorelei has been going even longer, only gaining proper traction with last year’s belated debut album Box for Buddy, Box for Star. The artwork for Holo Boy Now Amos is capitalising on this recent momentum with another release, this time a compilation of re-recorded songs dredged from his extensive Bandcamp back catalogue.

Was Crawford Undisputed If He Never Paid For The WBC Belt?
Terence Crawford came to his defense today, saying he doesn’t need belts to “prove” himself. For someone who doesn’t care about belts, he sure made a big fuss about getting stripped of his WBC 168-lb title after he stiffed the sanctioning body with the $300,000 fee for winning it. You Must OWN the Belt Crawford had boasted about winning the undisputed championship off of a faded Canelo Alvarez on September 13th. But he chose not to pay for the WBC’s fee. Since he never paid for the WBC title, you can’t say he was ever the valid owner.

The debate over Horses’ delisting is emblematic of a bigger fight that’s taken place this year, when platforms such as Steam and Itch.io yanked down “NSFW” and “porn” games in July. Developers, players, and trade organizations have continued to be vocal about developers’ creative rights to make games that deal with adult content. “Developers shouldn’t have to compromise their creative vision, but we also have to acknowledge that games exist within capitalist structures where access to platforms determines livelihood,” says Jakin Vela, executive director of the International Game Developers Association, a nonprofit supporting game developers.

WIRED Roundup: DOGE Isn’t Dead, Facebook Dating Is Real, and Amazon’s AI Ambitions
Leah Feiger: So it's a really good question actually, and it's one that I've thought about for quite some time. I think if it's not annoying, I want to read this quote from Scott Kupor, the director of OPM and the former managing partner at Andreessen Horowitz, to be clear, just to remind everyone where people are coming from in this current administration. He posted this on X late last month, and this was part of Reuter's reporting. So he posts, "The truth is, DOGE may not have centralized leadership under USDS anymore, but the principles of DOGE remain alive and well, deregulation, eliminating fraud, waste and abuse, reshaping the federal workforce, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera." Which is the exact same, the thing that they've been saying this entire time, but it's all smoke and mirrors, right?
