Love my carbon. Think it should part of the repertoire. I use mine mostly for hard sear, stove top, grill and hot oven. Guess that’s cast iron as well? 🤷

Lots of options. Mainly don’t over cook. If crispy skins important then more care needed. I’ve seen your skills, I don’t think you need a dry run. Folks should be properly lubricated and it won’t matter.
