Ooooh. I thought it was a description, like a site which has mammoths... 😑

Awesome as usual, but what is the name of this site?
(Also, there's a little typo: *Antilocapra, not found in the Antilles)

Might be the best Toxodon I've ever seen. Entirely realistic and yet clearly different from any extant group, not just a hippo rip-off or a grunting capybara with donkey's teeth...
👍

Well, well, if it isn't my old nemesis Lynx Nature Books again...

- my wallet, probably

Two years, not six. The 6 is in the AAV...

I don't think either that a suggestion from this rando on bluesky will change the English language 😁 but I find it would sound cool, plus a related word is used in all Romance languages and as an adjective (rapacious) even in English!

If the majority of telluravian topologies are true, that's a very strong phylogenetic inference. Hawks, condors, owls, falcons and seriemas together are the basal group to the less predatory landbirds. Sparrows are simply derived raptors...

Eh, languages change and maybe it's time to update the common English word for accipitriform+falconiform. I suggest going back to Latin, "rapax" - would that not be an awesome word?

Something reminescent of a gorgonopsian or therocephalian, in the vague way that Godzilla is reminescent of a theropod or ornithopod...

and that's why I do not believe it will really happen. Putin would never take the risk to go to America in person. Possibly will send an impersonator.

The fact that you are outraged by the accusation does not mean that it was true. A judge found that there is no proof that something bad happened. Who are we to decide that the judge (with better knowledge of the facts than us) was wrong and the accused people are guilty?
July 25, 2025 at 6:03 PM
Well, no. Why? As long as we don't know exactly what happened, if a judge who knows much more than us has decided they don't need punishment, that's good with me.

False accusations exist and they can ruin a person's life. I do not support punishing people who are NOT found guilty.

Sounds like the Oligarchy has decided to drop Taco and probably endorce Vance. What I'm thinking now is that Vance will only need to do a little better than Taco to gain a lot of appreciation among the public, and that is gonna be easy.

Thank you, very specifically, for the comment about "Eulipotyphla" and "Euarchonta". I was so relieved when Prothero et al. 2021 came out to finally put down the "Cetartiodactyla" name, can't wait for the others to be challenged.

It appears that you forgot to label Hymenolaimus, close to Aptornis and Mergus, is that so?

For me the winner is D, I like the small picture in the middle (more symmetry), but with the world map to the left site (more place). No to B, simple silhouettes are better.
Immerhin eine tolle Idee!

Strong supporter of the Isturitz statuette as Homotherium, myself. Antón et al 2009 showed it is not a perfect fit, but did not compare it to other felids, and to me seems evident that cave lion or anything else is a WORSE fit.

A little suggestion: Hoplitomeryx was probably not a deer, but something closer to basal bovids. I would rather look at muskdeer and antelopes (Tetrameryx?) to fill in details.

Cute boy Teddy, is it perchance a fraudolently marketed transgenic wolf pup?
April 8, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Yay for de-extinction, the science and the interest for that are quite different from conservation and I think they can both be pursued... But this "direwolf" desaster brings nothing to the table, it is a transgenic gray wolf which has nothing to do with de-extinction.

LOL at those that say "the whole world is". No. For us outside of the US it's gonna be a rocky ride, but we'll be better off on the long run, your country has done lots of good and lots of bad and many are glad to get rid of your influence. We're watching the empire fall and it's spectacular.

Unless you put deep reforms in place. In the political system to prevent lunatic changes. In the education. In the whole society. Then we'll be friends again.

May I point out that bird are more closely related to the T. rex than to the azhdarchids? 🙃
