I know it doesn't feel as direct, but money is the best thing you can do. They get discounts for bulk purchasing food from the government and can often get things for way cheaper than you or I can get. But it also makes sense that people are wary of that.

I worked for a food bank for 4 years. Shelf stable foods, cans. Things people often don't think about: spices, cake mixes. A lot of times you can actually call the food bank and schedule a pick up for food if it's a lot. And they can give you the food drive boxes.
