Do you leave the long edges fringed or do you hem them?

I hope it goes well, and I am confident it won’t do a thing to diminish your light. Radiant orange light.

What’s the documentary?

I didn’t want to manifest the energized singles by mentioning them. Good luck!

The cashmere you were short on? That seems like a yay!

The physics is the same with a string and a pair of springs - one stiff and one less so- replacing the weight. Just needs mounting points screwed into the loom frame and doesn’t need the clearance for -gravity-. Might be harder to turn off vs just slopping the big weight onto the floor.

Harder to describe than to do. Here is a photo.

Use a live weight brake instead. A weight on a rope wrapped around the beam with a small counterweight. Lots of details in the linked book or I can show my setup later.

You can do anything on a RH loom or backstrap if you're game for pickup and/or adding string heddles. Happy weaving!

I can’t think of anything on the open web rn, but try searching Jin (turned taqueté) separately from Four color Double Weave. The journal of Complex Weavers has loads (if you are a member or have library access). Marian Stubenitsky’s Echo and Iris book is one-stop-shop.

How about a freestanding distaff? Most of the design details are woodturner’s choice. As long as it has finials to tie into, the segments break down, and it can stand up, anything goes.

Would a commission help?

Folding the layers while keeping them both on-grain would probably work for cotton fabrics I weave but I think it would be nightmarish for the linen. Thanks for all the details!

Yeah the problem with the one I have is that there isn’t much room between the plates and the hinge. 3-4 inches maybe? So even nicely rolling up one side of the fabric doesn’t really fit. If yours is better suited, please post a pic or say the brand/model.

How big is the throat on your press? I have one but it is very hard to get to the middle of wide yardage.

There’s a lot of fun to be had with 6 blocks of huck on 8 shafts.
