Alan, who recently found out that his beetroot had the highest level of PFOA of all of the vegetables tested by the council, tells me his biggest worry is that he might have unknowingly harmed his friends and family.

Alan, who for four years has held a plot on the Occupation Road allotments on the factory boundary, recently discovered that his beetroot contained the highest recorded level of PFOA of any of the vegetables tested by the council.

Sam is one member of the community who has been directly affected by this contamination. She stopped eating all of her home-grown food earlier this year but says she is left in limbo, not knowing whether or not she should be eating her duck’s eggs.

In Thornton-Cleveleys, residents within a one kilometre radius of the AGC Chemicals Plant have been told to take a "precautionary approach" to eating home-grown vegetables due to elevated levels of PFOA, a globally banned and carcinogenic chemical, in the soil.

Cancer rates in Bentham are "significantly higher" than the England average, official data shows I have heard a huge number of anecdotes echoing this. One lady told me she can name 10 people on her road who have breast cancer.

NEW: International law firm Mishcon de Reya has been instructed to bring legal action over PFAS pollution in the UK’s most known PFAS-polluted place, becoming the second legal practice to be instructed by residents of the Yorkshire town.

Great to see my story reporting that residents in Bentham, the most known PFAS polluted place in the UK, have instructed lawyers to investigate a legal claim against the fire fighting foam manufacturer in the centre of the town in the paper today!
