Fronted by vocalist, DJ, and chaos elemental Mariko Gotō – seen to the left over there in the teddy bear outfit and occasionally seen taking her panties off onstage and throwing them at the audience – Midori draws two of its founding members and a lot of its sound from noise-punk act Usagi., and whooooooo BUDDY does it show. The quartet’s entire discography is filled with the kind of barely coherent, whiplash-inducing, and extremely danceable arrangements that would make the cats from Naked City take a powder.

posted a thread over the weekend about why i do this charity marathon every year & the heartbreak that comes with watching our community's resources being ripped away

reposting it in longform here because it is important to acknowledge where we are & the path ahead

we have to be each others' light
about to start drawing up the poster for this year's Jazzy Fuckin' Holidays charity marathon on datafruits.fm (you can see last year's poster here) reflecting on how many queer-friendly & non-carceral mental health resources we have lost since last year's charity marathon, how much more at risk queer and trans folk are it's..fucking with me a bit, ngl. i started Jazzy Fuckin' Holidays because i do not have a family and have spent more holidays alone than i can count the goal of JFH was (and is) to give folk somewhere to go, or at least to tune into, to hear a friendly voice and know they aren't alone.... ...like i've had to be, for so many years. we raise money every Thanksgiving and Christmas for non-carceral warmlines because i am someone who knows violently well how important it is to be able to have lines that do *not* report mental health crises to the police and it genuinely disturbs me how many of those resources are just...gone now. erased. defunded. they no longer exist. the callousness is heartbreaking. i will be posting reminders throughout the season, but genuinely, *check in on your disowned & at-risk queer friends* this year, throughout the fall and winter. bring them into things, drag them out of the house, visit them, whatever you have to do. be the warmth your friends never got to have. i understand this is a polarizing statement, but severe mental health outcomes, especially in queer circles, *is often a community issue*. if your nation wants you dead, your politicians want you dead, your family hates you, and no one steps in to tell you otherwise? you get the outcomes we have. so please, reach out to your queer friends, especially the impoverished, the disowned, the lonely, those with mental health struggles if you see someone struggling, pick them up. i say this as someone who has fought alone for decades. you can hear it in my music, you can read it in my books. i know what often happens when you have to fight this battle alone. we have to do what we can to break that cycle. we are all we have now. and we can't let more of us fall under. we have to be each other's light.
