Yesterday, 13(!) presidential contenders debated for the last time ahead of the first round of presidential election in Poland next Sunday. Currently, gathering 100.000 signatures is sufficient to be registered as the candidate, hence qualifying for the debates. Is it the best way to go about it?

Unsurprisingly, Trump supporters cast the ongoing mass protests with the well-known trope of 'paid' protestors. The conspiracy is seemingly inspired/amplified by the Trump advisor Laura Loomer who speaks of the 'Red-Green' alliance between Antifa and environmentalists.

With 65% of votes counted, it looks certain revived Social Democrats will get a first go at forming the gov as the largest party with 21.1%. A remarkable revival from 9.9% in 2021 under the popular leadership of Kristrún Frostadóttir, who put healthcare at the forefront of the campaign (1/4).

With the highest turnout since the onset of liberal democratic Poland (72%) it needs to be said the exit poll results need to be treated with caution. Having said that, it looks like the dwindling of Confederation and outperforming of the centrist Third Way is going to bring end 8 year PiS rule.
