In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them.

Apparently, even though deciduous trees lose their leaves in winter and stop photosynthesis, they can still grow new roots belowground! That means that trees don't completely stop producing new tissue, they just do it in a more sheltered place.
