On June 7th from 1–4, join Pinko Magazine, Take Back the Bronx and Critical Resistance for an afternoon of reading and conversation. In 2025, Haymarket Books republished a collection of oral history interviews conducted by members of the Pinko collective after the 2020 uprising on the history and present of the concept of “accountability.” The conversations touched on questions of community, harm, commitment, abolition, and revolution. First published in 2023 by Wendy’s Subway, this second edition expands and updates the first with new interviews. The event will be in conversation with prison-industrial complex abolitionists from the Bronx who laid the foundations of what it means to put abolition in practice, and an “abolition regrounding” as we continue building autonomous community formations striving towards collective liberation. We will also be honoring Sammy Crea 150 of Critical Resistance, Community In Unity, La Asociación Ñeta, one of our dearest guerreros who is resting in power. Narrator and Critical Resistance member Pilar Maschi will be joined by Kim Diehl, Esteban Kelly and Pinko collective member M. E. O’Brien, as well as by Darcy Gill, Jaime Rivera, Lisa Ortega, Sache’l Thompson, and Trevor Nicholas. When we talk about community in idealising and romantic terms, we are not describing something that already exists, we are articulating a desire for the world we want to live in. Through our ideas of community, we are describing a way of relating to each other that is only possible in the revolutionary overcoming of capitalism and class society. Community is our yearning for communism. And the barrier to attaining it is the capitalist organisation of present society. Accountability, like community, is a way of articulating our desire for communism, for a form of communist social relations that ties us together.
