I think Americans are struggling so much financially that they can't imagine helping anyone else. USAID seems like just a slap in the face to them when it is probably one of the biggest bangs the country gets for its buck. Although if you can't afford to travel or have an import export business.

The country is actually very liberal but the business parties could not provide liberal economic policies and offered cultural ones instead. DEI, gay marriage etc. To conservative folks it looks like liberal thinking dominates the government that has overseen a decline in their standard of living.
