From this (UK) side of the Atlantic it looks like a simple ruse to define any defence activity as "war" and therefore justify "war" rules.

And it needs to be "impartial" as in "objective, fact-based" not "impartial" as in "there is controversy about this so we need to give both sides equal time".

It's neither punishment nor envy. It's simply a fair way of paying for the services that we all benefit from in some way or another. You are still better off than someone earning less, it's just a less grotesque differential.

I don’t. I expect a clear plan for delivery with a timeline and updates. And a clear narrative. Not chaos and U turns and ugly rhetoric and cheap populist scapegoats.
November 15, 2025 at 2:37 PM
As in the US.

Custodial sentences should ONLY be used when it is the only means of safeguarding the community NOT as either deterrence or retribution. And when it IS the only safe solution, custody should be humane and comfortable.

But they don’t seem to be. All those plans for investment for growth seem to have either been jettisoned or aren’t working. Meanwhile human rights are being sacrificed in an apparent attempt to out-populist Reform, and appease transphobes.

When I resigned (after decades of being a member) there were no options to explain why. My ideals are to the left, but I'm a pragmatic incrementalist - would have been happy, genuinely, with small affordable shifts at first to gain trust. But not with chucking the vulnerable under the bus.
November 15, 2025 at 1:13 PM
Sorry I already lost it. The transphobia was the last straw. Resigned and joined the greens. I still hope they can turn things round but making the right wing’s arguments for them isn’t the way to do that, either practically or ethically.
November 15, 2025 at 11:33 AM
“Violence towards women and girls” has become no more than dogwhistle for transphobia. Misogyny is at the root of both.

The speech was good. But it doesn’t explain the policy decisions. Or the vacillation. No point in a good speech if it doesn’t map on to competent decision and policy making.
November 15, 2025 at 10:56 AM
Yes. I was one. I thought he was competent and principled. I’d have been content with competent. Joined the Greens now.
November 15, 2025 at 10:36 AM
He can’t even explain what he’s trying to do. That’s a sine qua non in a leader. There is no sense that this chaos is leading anywhere.
November 15, 2025 at 10:32 AM
But we aren’t. We are in a mess instead.
November 15, 2025 at 10:29 AM
Neither should have run.

And if an AI app can be "woke" or "not woke" it also tells you everything you need to know about AI.
November 14, 2025 at 1:13 PM
And, as @iandunt.bsky.social says, a lack of courage. Even when they have the ideas, they don't have the courage to make the changes.
November 14, 2025 at 1:08 PM
The issue as I see it is that yo can’t “simply state” someone’s genetic sequence. Decisions are made at every point. Why sequence Hitler in the first place? Having done so, why report his polygenic risk score for specific conditions? What question does it address?
November 14, 2025 at 9:04 AM
Also the tying of criminality to genetics.
November 14, 2025 at 8:56 AM
That should be “if you do a study that invalidates it you must publish the counter evidence”
November 13, 2025 at 7:59 PM
Good grief.
November 13, 2025 at 8:44 AM
Can we just STOP pillaging the entire planet?
