I’ve never heard of mac & cheese for Thanksgiving. Where is that a thing? This West Coast native makes scalloped potatoes with pride. With milk, cheese and eggs, thank you for your attention to this matter.

There are vast stretches of the USA, particularly west of the Eastern Seaboard, where public transit is impractical and/or nonexistent due to low population density & long distances (outside large metro areas). Owning a car or taking Uber/Lyft are the only practical options for most people.

Good to hear. But for me, now past 70, there is a strong urge to have someone else go to the grocery store, and also do the cooking. I am tired!

Wonderful! Here is Julia Child, her normal buttery yellow blushed pink by frost, in the high (sagebrush) desert of eastern Oregon USA. Normally blossoms on everything long gone by this time of year.

This reminds me of the road sign that says: “Private sign — do not read.”

More detail: Bach Prelude No 1 in C Major from Vol 1 of Well-Tempered Klavier, ie keyboard solo (1722) Extra measure added by Charles Gounod or someone earlier, to match his vocal composition ‘Ave Maria’ (1853). The extra measure is referred to as the ‘ghost measure’.

We, and by ‘we’ I mean the entire world, not just Catholics, have waited far too long to have an American Pope.

Regardless of age/culture of ma’am-er, the first time you are called ‘ma’am’ is a shock. Trust me, it only gets worse from there. Of course, it’s quite refreshing to be called ‘Hon’ by people older than you, so there’s that.

FYI we are not ‘trying to hold onto print’ (whatever that means) print is not going away, no matter how old you are. But I agree it is weird about clinging onto Twitter/X (says this baby boomer).

Reminder there are people who walk among who think any kind of football or other back-and-forth sport is boring. It takes all kinds….

We sadistic piano teachers hold a sharpened pencil under beginning students’ wrists to remind them not to drop them when they play. 🥸

One good thing about actually admitted one is ‘old’ is that it suddenly seems perfectly acceptable to be grumpy, even expected. So yeah. Don’t stop.

I’ve always hated hoodies because the hood drags down in back & pulls up the front of the shirt & strangles the front of my neck. Maybe I’ve never worn a good quality hoodie? who knew?!

To go along with the 50 billion year (so far) presidency?
November 9, 2025 at 3:28 PM
So true!!! But that 50 year mortgage idea was based on the fact that 50+ years ago, most first home buyers were in their early 20’s, & wages were high enough for a single wage earner to support a family. We bought our first home in 1974 in our early 20’s w/ a single seasonal job as our only income!
