4 is making the choices that it has made. Actually, maybe the most consecutive thing might be to discuss where Metroid is headed and how these newer entries are aligning with Nintendo’s or Retro’s vision/expectations.

I don’t know how much additional effort it would take, but I feel like actually examining how ‘isolated’ Metroid games, or maybe just the Prime games, have been would help to see where the series is going.

I feel like if you’re directly comparing 3 to 4, there’ll be a clearer picture of why

I wonder if there’ll be log entries from Samus about certain events/characters. If they want to push more character dynamics, but keep Samus stoic, that could be a good compromise.

“I miss my wife, Samus…”

“I miss all of mine, too.”

“???”

movies or similar ones. You’re the unstoppable force, but there’s something you lack b/c of that.

Their co-op segments don’t really seem like they sell enough on WHY Samus needs them, rather you MUST to get your required power-ups.

Outside that though, it looks like another Metroid Prime game.

I think with a couple of their lines talking about making it home to their families is supposed to be a connecting point b/w them and Samus, but that would require the FTs talking about how much of a monster Samus is.

I feel a vague sense that the premise lifts a little from the 80s Schwarzenegger

I found that homing/control shot kind of slow. Rather than controlling it in flight, it might be snappier if you could hit slo-mo, mark enemies, and then see your shot run through everything you traced.

Basically 3D Zelda boomerang.

biased to one of them. That hulking murderbot in the style of Omega (from Sonic). That’s just kind of a fun character to have in sci-fi.

parts of gameplay. Though the trailer implies their segments get you power ups, I hope it’s not fully required.

Ultimately, is there a point to having these guys in both gameplay and story? Can you progress the Metroid story w/o Samus interacting with the greater world?

I’ll admit I’m a little

I’m mixed, b/c I can’t remember if I felt really negative about the other Hunters in 3. My gut reaction was thinking back to that open world Halo game and seeing MP4 taking cues from that for some reason.

The way it looks, those soldiers are part of the set piece moments in each area, not integral

I don’t believe Valve hardware is sold in retail stores, which might be partially why there is little to no accessibility in other regions.

Hopefully this new multi-product initiative along with the furthered development of the SteamOS gets them to actually sell these outside of their niche.

I think your eval is very spot on to Fujimoto’s writing style.

“… handles all the necessary questions…” is the cornerstone to his serial work imo. Maybe she’ll return in some form by the end of Part 2, but her role feels done for better or worse.

They’re actually prepping people to introduce lore that some early Snorlax could reach gargantuan sizes and would fall into eternal slumber, becoming one with the land.

This way, players can reframe what every cave and mountain entrance is.
