It's the hope (read:fear) of "they won't attack us if we're on their side." It's paying the mob to not ruin your business, even as the mob keeps raising the fee.

Some "red" states did volunteer some of their national guard to go into DC when TACO called for it, but since it's not technically a state, the legality of that is... blurry. Still a foreboding precedent.

In conjunction with that, I've also noticed a lot more people who I assume are on the left side of the political spectrum are also entertaining more conspiracy theories. The whole "i don't know what to do, so I'll invent something I can control" is a very powerful feeling.

Funny. As a "white person" I felt like Dems were trying to appeal to "white people" far too much. Like, really, Kamala, you want Dick Cheney to endorse you?

Honestly. A lot more modern authors have more challenging ideas than any of the "big three" writers of the genre without having to sort through the baggage behind them.
And that's not to say they're without value. I still enjoy reading I, Robot. But go read Children of Time as well.

It's not just books either. Video games have a huge problem these days as many are live-service, and once the distributors shut down the servers, the games are essentially unplayable.
