As a survivor of a rare, aggressive sarcoma, my visits to the oncologist always cause stress. Today, I learned that I need another MRI to determine whether recurrence is what is causing new pain and nerve symptoms. My drawing expresses both the wisdom and weariness that can result from suffering.

With each visit to this First Nation's elder, I know her more deeply. The placement of each mark and shading reveals her spirit. This is a reminder that we must spend time with others, honor their wisdom and their wounds, and risk looking deeply into their eyes. Our world needs more of this.

Progress seems slow, but it always seems this way. We kind of trod along or slowly make marks on our paper or on our lives ... then, of a sudden, the image is revealed, the truth emerges, we find ourselves home.

Decided to try drawing an elder in order to explore wrinkled wisdom. A work in progress as I build in light and shadow. Each wrinkle reveals hardship, knowledge, worry and weariness, energy spent on loving and on letting go.
