We visited the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, and now I think we had a vampire infestation in Vilnius sometime before late 17th century...

Previous week was spent at Connections UK, representing the Wargaming Lab of ISM. Some takeaways. First, it's always great to meet old friends and find new ones! Wargaming community is very welcoming, and I'm glad that Connections UK continue to hold sessions specifically dedicated to newcomers.

In the end, each group reached a positive level of public welfare, even if some also did more for themselves... Yet, I think the students would form quite a good government.

How does agenda setting power affect policy outcomes? How can personal and public interests be balanced? Those are not easy questions, but using a game gave a platform to actually make decisions instead of just discussing ideas.

Yesterday, participants of the Students to Government project ran by the Office of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania got a chance to play a tabletop game on interest management, agenda setting, and coalition building. How do interest groups form coalitions when considering potential laws?

When we started Wargaming Lab at ISM last September, one of the aims was to build and foster international collaboration with our Allies. I'm extremely happy that last week we saw the first German-Lithuanian wargaming summer school organized together with The German Wargaming Center.

Hunt for Blackbeard by @volko.bsky.social was the first game I playtested ever, both on a homemade physical copy and Vassal. Before the physical release, kindly thanks to @fortcircle.bsky.social and @ccxvii.bsky.social, this gem of a game is now available on Rally the Troops!

This year I taught my ISM University of Management and Economics masters' students well at the very least two things: dominant strategies in game theory and the importance of attending lectures. I managed to sneak in a Frank Herbert's Dune quote to my graduation speech, quite a good day, I'd say.

This game focuses on elections. 2p game, where both players represent political parties and by implementing projects (or blackmailing the opponent) try to build support across ten districts in Lithuania, hoping to win the next election. Yet, events may stop even the most cunning plan.

This is a game about defense of Lithuania against a potential Russian attack from Belarus and Kaliningrad. It takes the structure of a hex and counter and puts the main focus on maneuvering units and defending key urban centres, while reinforcements from the West keep coming day by day.

Another game looks at the Punic Wars and pits Rome against Carthage. A light and tight 2p game, where the players have to employ land and naval units in order to take control of the Mediterranean.

A look at Eastern Europe in 15-16th centuries. One player takes the role of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and four others play as its neighbours, using political, economic, and military means to achieve their goals. There is asymmetry as GDL is on the defensive while the others are on the offensive.

We had a final student game prototype day yesterday at ISM University of Management and Economics. Some guests from the game development industry and the faculty joined, which was a great opportunity for students to show what they did. What was that more specifically?

The economic and the political incentives intertwined in an interesting manner, leading to some harsh outcomes for the foreign automakers. I look forward to running the game more times to see how varied are the dynamics that emerge.
