Just got my first allotment in Finland. Other interests include handicraft (knitting/weaving), renovation (summer cottage) and reading (scifi/fantasy/other genre stuff).
I also attended apple grafting class and it was great. I made three trees and I will plant them to our summer cottage because they will (hopefully) be too big for allotment. I will probably order some dwarf rootstock and cuttings for the plot if they have not sold out yet.

Started first small batch of seeds indoors. Some of the lavender seeds that I put to stratificate about a week ago, few violas, and experimental pear. No idea what to do if the pear sprouts 😅
Purslane and watercress from earlier sprouted in 2 days and got eaten, might not work with pear.

😄 and thanks for the tip. Our allotment system seems to be a bit different, but not by much.

I'm also planning to do a comparative winter sowing of lavender (and other stuff) because I'm a bit short on windowsill space www.meillakotona.fi/artikkelit/t...
Hankeen vaan itämään – talvikylvö tuottaa tanakoita kasveja eikä koti täyty taimipurkeista
Tiesitkö, että voit aloittaa taimikasvatuksen ulkona talvella? Tammi–maaliskuu on oivaa aikaa talvikylvöille. Ulkona viileässä kasvu on hidasta mutta topakkaa.

Awesome 😀 Very nice setup and doesn't take practically any space. We are not allowed to have any sheds, but I think I'll try something like this with my compost bins.

Do you grow the pollards on your own plot? I just got an allotment and there are some willows and I was thinking about saving a few of them for this purpose. On the other hand there are abandoned plots full of willows and I got the permission to "do whatever you want except fertilize them"...

We get too much UV because I burn too easily, but plants can do pretty much fine even without it :) They only need visible wavelenghts of light but UV causes them to make antioxidants and that affects the taste and the defense mechanisms against pests and diseases.

Weather can be harsh, but in compensation we get almost 20h sun during the high summer in my latitude, and in the north sun does not even set :)
