Economic outcomes often depend on the distribution of some maximum value (e.g. the highest valuation, best idea, or lowest cost).

If the average number of options is large, do such outcomes change when some agents have more options than others?

I don't think people realize that in important respects tariffs are now higher & more inflationary than what was announced on last Wednesday.

Since then we've gone from 54% to 125% on China, our 3rd largest trading partner. That outweighs delaying the increases on 70+ others.

Trump’s claim that this is just temporary pain and that the stock market is going to boom is silly. Markets are forward looking and if investors would have believed Trump’s claim , stock prices would not fall now.

Recently Yann Calvó López and I wrote two long blog posts where we detail how vulnerable modern supply networks are.

A trade war triggered by Trump's chaotic tariffs is the same type of aggregate shock as the Covid crisis, but worse.

In publicly dismissing Zelensky as a negotiator who "has no cards," our POTUS has deliberately acted to undermine confidence in the elected President of Ukraine, and in doing so could do more to undermine democracy in Ukraine than 1000 Russian missiles. How can this serve US interests?
