Using a combination of #sedimentology and #micropalaeontology, we show that karst pockets in elevated limestone terrain (>10 m asl) can trap and preserve marine #sands deposited by past #tsunami waves.

For this year I am looking forward to continue working with several brilliant fellow young researchers on these samples to get deeper insights into mechanisms of the 2011 Tohoku-oki hashtag#megathrust hashtag#earthquake and hashtag#tsunami, and the hashtag#paleoseismicity of the Japan Trench.

In 7000 m water depth we successfully cored ~950 m through the Japan Trench subduction zone and collected the input sequence from the incoming Pacific plate.
