Saint Philomena is one of the many “person in power thought she was hot, she didn’t want to marry him, so he murdered her” teen saints. I was weirdly obsessed with these stories as a kid. Anyway drew this yesterday while praying for justice for Epstein’s victims. (Colored pencil on 5below paper.)

Love it when seeds long ago forgotten surprise me with a bloom!
(Extra chia seeds from a kids’ (long ago died off) chia pet someone got her. I had no idea chia plants were so beautiful when they bloom! Apparently they are in the mint family so they’ll probably be in the garden for a while… 🌱

Drawing with a cat in two parts.
(1. Cat sits on my work.
2. I use cat as table after he falls asleep.)

I am not a t-shirt quilt person-working with stretchy jersey is just not my jam. Anyway, made this one as a retirement gift and paid a long arm quilter for the first time ever because I just couldn’t figure out quilting it. Happy with it (And especially happy I don’t have to deal with it anymore 😆)

Toads against totalitarianism?

Rainbow at the very beginning of sunset. Featuring special guest Goldenrod 🌱 stretching its flowers up into the frame!

Finished quilt! This one I did differently-friend doesn’t like the feeling of seams/stitching. I quilted the top to the batting, and added the back like I’d make a simple two pieces of fabric blanket. Tada-no stitches on the fleecy back! The edges are not as neat, but worth it for the sensory win!

Lately most of what I’ve been creating has been portraits of my friend’s kids and my kids’ friends as many birthdays have been back to back. And I don’t share pictures of other people’s kids publicly. But, I did finish this quilt for my friend’s raccoon loving kid so that I can share!

Ramón is giving y’all a #caturday reminder: don’t forget to hydrate!

This bumblebee, tongue all the way out and face covered in pollen, is pretty much me with a bag of Cheetos eating my feelings 😆 Glad my pollinator garden is being judged as good enough by the bees!

Quilt in progress; cat for scale.

I made a necklace out of (off brand) calm strips!! It actually looks really pretty and not obvious like a lot of kids' sensory support jewelry is! My kid is finally to the age where she cares about what the other kids say, and social stuff is already hard enough!

So graceful. So majestic. So reserved.
Happy #caturday

Ok I’ve never had a cat before but a week in I’m already understanding and leaning in to the “when everything in the news is crazy, sit outside with the cat for a few minutes and breathe” mental health strategy.

Ramón is annoyed that I haven’t made any quilts for him to sit on while I work on them since I got him this week. He’s contenting himself with sleeping on the quilt pattern I’m in the middle of drawing instead.

I love that my kids are old enough to recommend things. The 9 year old’s book’s main character likes Nina Simone, so currently we’re snuggling the new cat, listening to Nina Simone, (Sings the Blues) and watching the weather. The perfect momentary antidote to the constant existential dread spiral.

It’s tiny toad season! My favorite!
(A lot of my animal photography is…. Ope Well there it goes so guess that’s the photo I get then 😂 Tiny toads are MUCH more wary than big ones of people picking them up and usually jump away as quickly as possible!)

Happy blackberry season!!
(Vegan pavlova recipe from Freya Cox’s Simply Vegan cookbook, blackberries from our backyard 😄)

On my sunset beach walk I found a Portuguese Man o’ war! (Don’t worry, I didn’t touch it, even though I was tempted to adjust it for a better photo…) so so beautiful!!

My kids have too much faith in my artistic abilities, so I have to do my best to live up to their expectations! The birthday kid loves video games, so he requested a cake with these characters. I am definitely not a professional, I used toothpicks dipped in icing as pencils to draw on decorations 😂

Went out to the garden to see how my broccoli seed pods are coming along and found a friend as well! One of my favorite things about gardening is seeing how my garden interacts with its ecosystem 🌱

It’s just half square triangles and squares! I’m sure it can be done differently with the large triangles each being their own piece, but I did not want to do that math 🙈🤣

A quick and easy baby quilt for someone who works at my kids’ therapy center! I am usually not at all a pink or purple person, but I really like how this little quilt turned out!
