LITERALLY!! Ugh. I mean, tbh they ranted about similar things at that anime thing that I can't remember the name of, but it basically boiled down to western audiences only wanting one thing and it forces studios to keep making that one thing. It was about isekai and rpg mechanics, but this fits imo.

The only thing I can think of that's remotely close is Vinland saga. Everything else just has someone doing freaky shit, or it's a sports anime. I can't remember the last time I saw a bare bones swordsman or fighting anime that wasn't from the 90's or mid 2000's.
