Here is a photo of my team holding up bags of trash we collected in Kuwait. Soldiers pick up trash and rake leaves. It’s part of the “leave it cleaner than you found it” tradition of American military culture. It’s a real thing. It would be weird if they DIDN’T pick up trash.

Soldiers pick up trash. It's part of the gig. Nobody is exempt. When you see trash on the ground you are expected to pick it up. It demonstrates that you care about the area you share with other Soldiers. They are not embarrassed by this. See my picture below. We picked up trash in the desert.

Everyone calm down. Soldiers pick up trash as part of the duty day. It’s actually called a “police call”. The irony is not intentional. Here is a pic of my team holding up the trash we collected that week in Kuwait. The photo was required by our CSM to prove we completed our task. No joke.
