This work is a tribute to the town of Stromness in Orkney. I've been up that way to see the standing stones and there's no other place like it in the world. Many workers were hired by the Hudson Bay Company from this area of Scotland.

A toccata style work by the Finnish composer Kaski. There is so much variety in his music. If you compare the three works I've recorded in the past week, you might think there are different composers. Hope you enjoy this energetic work!

This could be the very first recording of this work. I can't find another one. Definitely inspired by Debussy, one can hear the flute of Pan throughout this work with its pastoral daydreaming. I hope you enjoy it! The composition date was approximately 1924.

This is such an incredible work by a Finnish composer who is seeing some better attention these days.
Heino Kaski is a hidden gem of Finnish music!
Born in 1885, Kaski devoted his life to melody, teaching, and the piano.

A spirited and dramatic soundscape, true to the spirit of Grieg’s Poetical Tone Pictures. Grieg drew constant inspiration from Norway; its folklore, its landscapes, and its musical traditions — infusing his works with poetic colour and atmosphere.

I love this Norwegian composer and have recorded 60 of his works. This is a lesser known composition filled with reflection and passionate outbursts. I hope you enjoy it!

A lovely short work by Schubert. He lived only 31 years and left a huge legacy of compositions including over 600 songs. I hope you enjoy this "Album Leaf" as a rare treasure as it's not often performed.

My friend Roger in Sweden sent this to me a couple of days ago asking about peddling and fingering. Iso I always choose instinct and intuition as I have to decide in 1-2 days how I'm going to play this. I hope you like it and I hope you find this useful Roger Gustavsson!

What a discovery today while I was working out in the gym:).
I couldn't wait to download this and record it. The suite is very progressive and 20th century. This one is the most tonal. Hard to believe it was written by a 12 year old!

Phoebé unfolds through dark, rich, and exquisitely subtle harmonic progressions, creating an atmosphere of nocturnal depth and emotional refinement.
Like its mythological namesake, Phoebé does not announce itself loudly. .

These earlier works of Haydn have no dynamic or articulation and could have easily been meant for the harpsichord. All articulation and dynamic detail are my own. It's a tricky one to gage tempo and fit in all of the ornaments!
