I find it is important that teachers set a good example, so being 'good' in school is beneficial. However, the teachers (including myself) who didn't always follow the rules and got in trouble do seem to relate well to the more challenging students and build positive relationships with them

Thanks for the detailed reply. This seems like a win win situation as using supply agency staff can cause huge disruption for students as they are not used to school systems and expectations. Now to present this idea to our head...

Your posts about no external supply keep popping up and I always wonder how you do it? We have cover supervisors but they are often supplemented by agency cover

Back in my early days of teaching, any type of praise was seen to be good. As this article highlights, there are many better ways to praise students. Just making them feel good isn't enough, you need to be specific and the best teaching I've seen does exactly this
