Haven't seen it posted yet, so I'm giving this paper led by @phyloecology.bsky.social a boost.

It models pest expansion onto hosts as a biased random walk on a graph (here, a phylogenetic tree). There's lots of way this approach could be expanded - hopefully it inspires

Pest host expansion as a scale-free stepwise process across the host phylogeny
Abstract. The present and future host ranges of pests have important implications for ecology, economics and health. Most multi-host pests have phylogeneti

Did you know that species with few close relatives in their community are more likely to interact with 'specialists'? But not necessarily because of coevolution!

Read about it in my new open access paper in GEB!

Evolutionarily Distinct Species and Their Partners Have Fewer Links in Ecological Networks
Aim Ecological networks describe the complex set of interconnections among species and their environment, and network structure can inform the stability, resilience, and functioning of ecosystems. I...

Gravity 4/11: TOKYO SOUND MACHINE
The beeps and boops. The vocal samples. The drum machine-esque drumming. And that sax wail coming out of the chorus! Super fun track channeling the spirit of late 80s Tokyo (I know it's a 90s song). Give it a listen!

Gravity 3/11: MS. BRACING
A more mellow track with a nice sax line. I really like the electric keys here, though the sax is definitely the focus. Jew's harp-y sounds (probably synth) in the back of the chorus add some fun bounce. Fun but not super remarkable.

Gravity 2/11: SAILING THE OCEAN
The sax and the piano break/riff exemplify the influence of T-Square on Mario Kart music. Interesting how the slow fade out is entirely unlike the previous track. I like the song, but the sax does tire my ears out a bit.

Gravity 1/11: THE SEVEN WONDERS
Sitar-y synth followed by wandering violin over big beat drums conjures vivid imagery of the title. Then the driving bass. I love the little midway EWI solo, as well as the change up to ending guitar solo. The abrupt ending is funny. A favorite of the album. #MusicSky

Beginning an album review of Gravity by T-Square since I'm listening to it on repeat. Maybe one track a day. #JazzSky #MusicSky #TSquare

My song of the day: Birdland by Weather Report. I love the bass, the swelling synth, the devolution into controlled chaos, the volume contrasts, the vibes and energy. Unfortunately I don't think the rest of Heavy Weather does much for me, but maybe it'll grow on me. #MusicSky #JazzSky

Currently obsessed with the album Gravity by T-Square. Also, planning to use bluesky like I did my 2010 Facebook status.
