“Shaft of Light” Unlike anything I’ve seen before, this singular beam of light and ice crystals shun down from above on cloudy and cold day in northern Montana.

“Silver Lining” Golden cottonwoods small in comparison to the blue badlands of Utah.

Join me for a 3-1/2-day workshop this October to photograph these landscapes for yourself.

“Intuition” I’ve found that this time of day, when the light filters up the wall and is no longer on the trees, marks the exact moment when reflected light begins. The interplay within this transition zone is fascinating to witness.

“Heartfelt” The way the cottonwoods weave through the Bentonite Hills, scattered boulders, rabbitbrush, and the winding Fremont River makes for an endlessly fascinating landscape. Check out some newly released images on my site.

“Temple of Stars” We had great conditions this morning as I lead a group of photographers into Cathedral Valley. Sunrise was beautiful that led into mid-morning.

“Glacial Glow” This lake is still seeing the effects of being ground down by a receding glacier in #glaciernationalpark. The prevalent glacier formed mountains, valleys and lakes is a feast for the eyes in this part of the Rockies.

“God Walls” Hiking on an ice sheet in Iceland. This ice caught the light just right, giving a golden hue with sparkles.

“Kingdom” After a long day of hiking around new to-me areas in #BryceCanyon we rounded the bend to see this stunning display of light.
I set up quickly and began making frames as the light faded. I made off with maybe five images before it was gone.

“Lost at Sea” A dense fog filled this lagoon, lending a moody, eerie feeling. It was silent, except the sound of the slowly moving icebergs rubbing against one another as they move toward the sea.

My first 4 photos from my fall 2024 visit to Zion National Park. All were photographed on Fuji Provia 100f 8x10 film with my Chamonix Alpinist X camera.

“Mystical Gesture” The Virgin River reflecting the new green leaves of spring in Zion National Park, Utah. I have walked this section of river dozens of times but this occasion the light and all lined up.

“Kingdom” An absolutely beautiful display of fast moving, angled light. I stood here for a solid hour memorized by how fast this light was changing the landscape; revealing layers, shapes and form while hiding them in shadows moments later.

“Dreamland” Iceland’s rugged landscapes that offer endless opportunities. This particular morning was something special—thick fog filled the canyon, sunlight broke through, unveiling layers, rainbows, and an unforgettable display of natural beauty.

“Fitted” Hiking through this valley was stunning, with the Wild and Scenic North Fork River just beyond the frame. The aspens and willows were shedding their leaves, while the larches had just begun to turn—adding a beautiful contrast to the scene.

“Revitalize” Badlands glowing in the angled sunlight, with cool shadows trailing behind. This scene is all about repeating patterns, shapes, and light—elements I’m always searching for.
