Living in Finland, truly moving water is rare. I had to travel to the deep valleys of the Creuse to find this.

Sundsvall from Above (2009)

There is a specific industrial texture to the Swedish coast that looks best in monochrome. The harbor, the tanks, and the stone city stacked against the water—it feels timeless in black and white.

"Srepping Stones".

The ruins of Findlater Castle may become famous soon as this location is in Christopher Nolan's next film, "The Odyssey".

For this shot I had to wait for low tide, jump from rock to rock, and get back before I was cut off.

Haven't posted this photo for a while - it's just over 5 years old, taken on the penultimate day of an incredible 50-day-long trip around #Iceland in 2020. Heavily processed, but sometimes you just have to!

The family/friend Christmas visits continue, so will be back to normal photo posting tonight...

Before I go, here's another from the recent trip to #Scotland of the wonderful Allt Chranaidh Falls - we returned when no-one else was there so I could get a full length shot without people in it!

Patagonia's iconic mountains usually take the limelight, but they are surrounded by endless, stunning alpine ranges. A forgotten, majestic peak, covered in fresh snow, glows red in the first light of day.

Some more film photographs, taken over a decade ago in Blackpool, some of these spaces no longer exist, but some are still there 😁✌️I usually try to avoid people in the frame, but the pigeons are an occupational hazard 😁🐦

Kalasatama

Taking the "Nifty Fifty" out for a walk in Helsinki. There is a specific geometry to this district that just works with a 50mm focal length. The contrast of the warm brick against the heavy winter sky is exactly why I carry a camera in December.

Meeting the Locals (2014)

I don't usually photograph animals—my focus is usually on the landscape itself. But you can't walk through the Limousin region of France without acknowledging its most famous residents. This one was particularly curious about the wide-angle lens.

Brussels in Monochrome (2024)

Sometimes you have to strip the color away to see the bones of a city.

The long shadows on the cobblestones and the clash between the historic facades and the modern tower in the back—it all reads better in black and white.

Pareidolia in Blue

From the archives: 2006. My first winter shooting digital.

When you stop looking at the landscape and start looking at the texture, the snow begins to look back at you. Soft shapes, hidden faces, pareidolia...

Autumn in Vienna

Finding color in the city. The way the golden leaves catch the light against the pale stone façade creates a perfect natural palette.

A quiet moment of warmth before winter sets in.

Finnish Summer, 2018

I usually point the camera the other way when the sun goes down. I try to avoid the obvious shot.

But sometimes, the light forces your hand. This was one of those nights near Lammi where the water was glass and the silence was total.

Montluçon Rooftops

A throwback to 2013. Looking out over the "vieille ville" in Montluçon, France.

There is a chaotic beauty in how these centuries-old tiled roofs stack against each other. A totally different rhythm from the Nordic lines I usually shoot.

Polar Night, No More

In the middle of #Kaamos, the sun barely clears the horizon. But when it breaks through the heavy cloud cover, the light is incredibly intense.

A fleeting moment of gold on the Helsinki skyline before the grey takes over again.
