PhD usually more flexible, you can, if something more interesting/rewarding comes along, drop down to part-time, or postpone it entirely, to resume at later TBD date, Bridgit did this to start NW Space.
One thing to note though, changing to PT/postponing might mess up grants/funding u have tho HTH

Replied to ur quoted post about thesis defense, pls take a look. Yeah four more years seems daunting, but I'd stay the course, at least for now. A positive way to see this is by doing a PhD you aren't necessarily closing yourself off to other things. With degrees you typically complete all in one go

Very important, not knowing a answer isn't failure! Some things you won't know & aren't expected to, but you can say something like "that's a good question, I don't have the answer right now, but will look it up and get back to you, or amend the thesis to address" better than silence or "don't know"

If you have friends there doing similar research topics perhaps you can practice together and try to come up with questions you might get asked about the research and how you'd respond. Just practising speaking about your work is helpful especially if you aren't a confident speaker like me lol.

Hey user. I would echo other comments and say try not to be too worried about it. I think it is good to treat it like a conversation in something you are already really fluent and familiar with, since you have already done all the hard work and research. Shame your team isn't more supportive tho

Or else contribute to possible solution. Good thing about literary review is it's hard to go wrong at this early stage so long as your chosen sources can be connected to your topic and question. Good chance to get used to the policies of academic referencing and the format required at ur university.

IME review starts really wide, looking at anything could be relevant to your chosen topic question, key is a very wide range of respected, ideally up to date (as possible) sources then getting narrowed as you get further.
Each source should add weight/strength/validty to the research question.
