It's definitely a place to connect and promote. I see a lot of college bands using it for what we called house parties.

2/2Moving away from digital to analog might be something to try. Bring back the Zine!! (actually I think this is already happening but they are gorgeous published booklets now)

1/2 Currently I use FB groups everyday. Until that feature becomes readily available on another platform I'll be chainged to META. As for Threads... nah. not an issue. Instragram also not a huge issue to leave.

I remember being at university in 86 using those Macs in the computer lab. All because I procrastinated and those labs were the only empty ones!
