Coercion and threats are a common type of abuse used against victims. During our recent Gender Justice and Intersectional Practice Conference Dr Yemisi Sloane spoke about the real dangers of legal dependency and called for a legal review in order to protect those who often go unnoticed.

Emotional abuse is commonly hidden behind stigma, tradition, or cultural expectations.

But as Dr Mirna Guha reminded us in our recent Gender Justice and Intersectional Practice Conference- we must never normalise abuse of any form.

Abuse is not culture. Abuse is not normal.
