Had to go to the hospital this morning for a stress test on the old ticker. Usually, they make you run on a treadmill or inject you with some chemical to stress your heart. Today, though, they just had me read the news.

I met Tom once while trying to see a King Eider in NJ. He was patient and helpful. Sweet guy.
Tom Johnson was a prolific contributor to our publications, mentor, guide, and all around friend to many at the ABA. Read Doug Gochfeld's remembrance of Tom in North American Birds, offered open access to the public in Tom's memory: tinyurl.com/p7bvv25h

“Those nasty Canadians are ripping us off and are controlled by Mexican cartels. They’re poisoning us with fentanyl and need to become the 51st state or they will pay a high price” is a belief that literally ZERO Americans had six weeks ago. It’s entirely invented from scratch.

After today’s Oval Office clown show, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council, called President Zelensky a Nazi, a Russian talking point. But here’s how you can tell Zelensky is NOT a Nazi: if he were, Trump, Vance, and Musk would be falling all over themselves to support him.

In its simplest terms, the apparent demise of #USAID is the result of the world's richest man ending a program that helps millions of poor people. You don't need a Ph.D. in moral theology to see why this is an evil. You can just read Jesus's parables on the rich and the poor.

Keep this in mind while paying your taxes (and having to beg Musk for your refund):
Tesla Paid Zero Federal Income Tax in 2024, Despite $2.3 Billion in Income
This brings Tesla’s average tax rate over the past three years to 0.4 percent.

Impermanence: on death and love

Death makes...love...something even more precious just because it will not last. [...] The impossibility of living forever, of loving forever, is the condition of the possibility of the love, the condition of its passion. --John D. Caputo, "The Promise of the World."
