I've watched a friend play ~10 hours now. First playable football match was about 4 hours in, with most of the game instead focusing on a heavily symbolic turn-based RPG using rock paper scissors. Big variety of minigames, too. And somehow it's kind of delightful in its earnestness.

youtu.be/S_tt-bCb23Q This is a pretty good visual example - Alice debuts in part 1, but the 2nd to last attack there (Phantom of the Grand Guignol) was added in part 4. Sanbondo was REFINING that craft.

This also has the interesting effect of having each part of the game being a noticeable jump in quality over the last as the devs refined the formula. This isn't even to say it starts bad, it starts in a really good place! Then it just keeps getting better, over and over.

Many Super Robot Wars fans continued calling Sanger Zonvolt "Zengar Zombolt" long after the official name was established, similarly keeping to the punny "Daizengar" for his robot instead of the official "Dygenguard". To be fair, the official translation DOES completely eliminate the wordplay...

store.steampowered.com/app/251110/I... I'll never stop thinking about Infra. Like someone set a Myst game in a lonely, sometimes unsettling journey through a city's failing infrastructure, snapping photos of safety violations all the way. Inexplicably made in the source engine in the late 2010s.

I've always understood that was the case, but the DLC here seems geared towards appealing to multiple regions.

Kenjiro Tsuda is a really, really good choice for Jonas. That's exactly the sort of voice he does.

youtu.be/1HsktzWFpXU Motoi Sakuraba gets a lot of flak for samey music, which is part of what makes the final boss theme of Baten Kaitos Origins such a remarkable choice. Instead of something more typically menacing, he opted for this somber, beautiful song, sung by his own daughter.

I've had two official Xbox controllers go bad on me in a row recently in similar ways. Dunno if it's just bad luck or if the manufacturing quality is dropping - I always used to think they were pretty reliable controllers.
