Probably should have put the hammers on this one if I wanted a discussion hey 😅😜

Alright #earth-science sky. I need to #rant.

Every year across a range of the Earth Science disciplines a bunch of papers get published with the sole-focus of publishing a software or glorified excel spreadsheet, touting it an amazing resource.

They never ask does it exist already?

Outside of Australia I am not sure how widely known that Australian Earth Science is in trouble. @sabinzahirovic.bsky.social lays out the issues + impacts in this interview. Strongly recommend everyone give this a listen and get involved in promoting the crucial role of Earth Sciences in society. ⚒️
My appearance on ABC Radio Sydney this morning (2 December 2024) discussing the state of Earth Science in Australian universities. Let's hope we can save Earth Science at the University of Wollongong, who have just closed their community consultations.

Today’s fun was making some chocolate glaze for a cake and seeing these structures in the cocoa powder and icing sugar. Little faults and “soft sediment” deformation

Continues to prove earth science and baking are best friends 😋😁

There's still time to register for this event. If you're starting your PhD and want to hear top tips from fellow/recent candidates. You don't need to be a geochemist to attend and benefit!
Our next "ECR Skills for Geochemists" session is on Monday 6th Nov at 1pm and will discuss "...things I wish I knew when I started my PhD". A great event for all PhD students, but particularly those who are starting out or in their first few years. Link to register here: geochemistry.group/events/

@earth-science.bsky.social, another good person to follow! He taught me so much of that I know about Geo-fizzz, coding, & he knows far too much about rocks for a code-dweller ⚒️🧪
