Religious thing I’m frustrated by today: parents teaching their kids basic life skills with Bible passages as the reasoning. “7-year-old-son, you feel better now that you have some breakfast? That just shows you that you can’t just say the words you feel when they all want to come out in a rush like

It’s been forever since I promoted this. If you’re looking for a soundtrack of calm, here is my album for your consideration. Stream it. Buy it. Even stream it for free (to you) on my YT channel (it’s a playlist.) Someday I’ll get the next two Suites worked up…

Day 6: I.N had a hard day yesterday, only SLOWLY making some bubbles. Our house is cool so I spend a bit of the day trying to keep him between 70-80°F… not super well. Today he’s got WAY better bubbles AND smell. Maybe tomorrow he’ll be ready! #NewSourdoughStarter #skz

Little I.N had a hard day, switching not from baby formula, but from rye flour to wheat. Completely new food in his tummy, so he didn’t get a good rise today. That was expected. I gave him a stir only, no extra food, and I’ll try to keep him warmer tonight, and he’ll probably get stronger tomorrow.

Little I.N is 3 days old now. I’m definitely growing this starter from smaller amounts than any recipe calls for, but yeast is small and there’s still a good bunch in here. I will say, I.N is stinky, not like any other sourdough I’ve made. Probably the pure rye used so far. Adding wheat from now on.

Little I.N is growing up so fast, 48 hours in. I forgot to get his rise picture from the last 24 hrs, but you can see the line where it got to in the first pic. Second pic: I almost made a noob mistake… that def would have overflowed after a good rise. Third pic: hopefully that’s low enough.

Finding a spot for I.N to grow up… the top of the fridge is no better than ambient, but the *cupboard* above the fridge is slightly better. He’ll sleep up there.

I.N is allliiiiive! We have bubbles. I repeat we have bubbles.

Follow me watching me start a new sourdough starter from just flour+water.

This is why I don’t do bets: we walked like 2/3 of a mile of surburbia trick-or-treating, and I saw ZERO Rumis tonight. ZERO. I saw one Saja Boy, and 6YO saw a Zoey. 🤷‍♂️ I’d be broke.

Proposition:
Instead of teaching kids prepositions with the mnemonic of “[preposition] the box,” we need to substitute “Narnia” for “the box” so that it better helps remember the preposition “for.”

Language rant: THE WORD LUGUBRIOUS HAS THE WRONG DEFINITION. It should mean “liquid-y smooth-sounding, legato, oozing and dripping with beauty and/or tone.” I want to say “oh, he played that passage so lugubriously” and “that singer’s or evil villain’s lugubrious voice…”
