Well, technically they were supposed to actually do that extra validation. Things like actually call your support line and ensure someone answered, send mail to your address and ensure it got received/replied to. Of course, you had to trust THEM to actually do that instead of rubber stamping.

Buying isn't a good idea since certain people are known for not paying what they agreed to. Buy maybe a land swap? I hear Maine might be agreeable for the trade.
