To NZ and other liberal democracies, the people of Myanmar need more than nice words on paper. If you care about democracy and human rights now is the time to step up. #NZMPsMyanmarFactFinding #Myanmar #SpringRevolution #ShamElection #whatishappeninginmyanmar @teanau.bsky.social

Our NZ MPs Fact Finding Mission on Myanmar concluded China is propping up one of the world's worst military dictatorships and as a respected great power it needs to reconsider that approach. #NZMPsMyanmarFactFinding #Myanmar #SpringRevolution #ShamElection #whatishappeninginmyanmar

We call for more aid to Myanmar, and to work with bordering states to find creative ways to get the aid to the people who desperately need it, avoiding the military and its proxies. #NZMPsMyanmarFactFinding #Myanmar #SpringRevolution #ShamElection #whatishappeninginmyanmar @teanau.bsky.social

We’re calling on the New Zealand Government and the wider international community to reject the Myanmar military regime’s sham election. #NZMPsMyanmarFactFinding #Myanmar #SpringRevolution #ShamElection #whatishappeninginmyanmar @teanau.bsky.social

Been calling for recognition of Palestine since mid-2023, calling for NZ to intervene in Sth Africa's genocide case since early 2024, calling for wealth fund divestment since mid-2024, calling for sanctions since early 2025. Always more to do.

And that is why more and more western countries are breaking from the US-led western unconditional support for Israel and aligning more with the global south on this issue. After recognition the next step is a global movement for sanctions against Israel. 4/4

The power of the Zionist narrative is waning fast. People are now less likely to see Israel as the plucky democracy in the Middle East, and more likely to see it as a genocidal rogue state which shoots starving people at aid stations. 3/4

It is a sad thing to say but the genocide has made people all over the West question the way they have looked at Israel-Palestine for a long time. The West has been under the spell of Zionism, somehow overlooking the fact that it is a colonial project built on the dispossession of Palestine. 2/4

It's a fair question bsky.app/profile/ojal... Easy to say in hindsight but I think our Party and progressive parties and civil society around the western world should have done more to support justice and self-determination for Palestine a long time ago. 1/4

Labour also calls for: sanctions against Israel for its illegal occupation of the Palestinian Territories in line with ICJ ruling, NZ should intervene in Sth Africa's genocide case at the ICJ, push for immediate ceasefire and accountability of Netanyahu et al for war crimes. 4/4

It doesn't matter Palestine doesn't yet have a fully functioning state or recognised borders. NZ recognised Israel in 1949 before its borders were settled, Bosnia Herzegovina in 1992 (no settled borders and no functioning state), Kosovo 2008 (no settled borders.) 3/4

It is simple as inviting the Palestinian Ambassador based in Canberra to come to Wellington and present their credentials to the Governor-General. 2/4
