We're calling for the UK to show the kind of leadership we showed in WWII. To face the challenge head-on instead of pretending it isn't happening.
This isn't a call for small tweaks but for big, courageous action.

We heard lessons from the COVID inquiry, from military crises, and from emergencies in intensive care units that are all the same: When a crisis is emerging, you act quickly. You do not delay.

The greatest financial risk we face is the cost of inaction. The economic disruption from extreme weather events that we’re not prepared for will be catastrophic. We risk being hit by weather disruption at a national scale, trying to recover from one disaster just as the next one hits.

Myth: Changing our food system is a threat.

Reality: It is a massive opportunity to improve our health, our rural communities, our economy, and our nature.

We must rigorously counter the misinformation that holds us back.

Myth: The energy transition will make us colder and poorer.

Reality: Insulating our homes and investing in a clean energy transition will save us money and make us more secure, especially those most in need.

When I asked the audience, not a single person thought the situation had been exaggerated. Many felt it was even more serious.

When we accept things as they really are, we can no longer rely on the psychological defences of denying, trivialising, or ignoring the need for deep, systemic action.
