I adore this film and rewatch it regularly but… come on… the role was originated on stage by Kathy Bates who is also gorgeous but in the movie they cast Michelle Pfeiffer who is brilliant but not dowdy no matter how hard she tries…

Late to this one but absolutely loved ‘Saturday Night’ for its energy, invention, playfulness and all-out-madness, historically accurate or not. Also brilliant to see terrific Emily Fairn at the heart of the ensemble and Matthew Rhys as George Carlin. Highly recommended.

Bumped into this very nice gentleman on a recent visit - my first - to Kembleford.

What was I doing in Kembleford, you ask?

It’s a mystery… 😉

A year ago today dear Betty unwillingly left the place she’d spent her whole life - right by my side. I will always be heartbroken without her and always so grateful for every moment we spent together.

Another #Andor standout for me was the truly brilliant performance by Josie Walker as the Force Healer. As a writer and ex-actor I so admire people who have one scene and deliver a fully realised, deep, real, complex human being that stays with you. Beautiful work.

Finished #Andor. Loved every second. But the main takeaway for me is that I cannot wait to see every single goddamned thing Elizabeth Dulau does next. She is astoundingly good, this show’s secret weapon and beating heart. Wow.

Ah, how I enjoy the annual reminder I am old as Methuselah as I stare blankly at a poster filled with random vowels and consonants that I’m reliably assured are ‘popular beat combos’… 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

30 years ago 18 year-old Pte Cheryl James died at #Deepcut barracks. The Army has given innumerable assurances that “lessons have been learned”. And yet nothing has changed.

Alive in ’25?
After a year of raising awareness about the crisis in TV, over the Christmas break I came up with one possible solution. Here's an idea I've been mulling on how to help revive UK TV drama for existing and new creatives... I'd love your thoughts. 🧵

Okay... UK TV folk… we survived – some of us - to 25…

Just about…

So... what now?

“Hello? Is that the helpline for people who’ve just watched The Substance? Yes, well, I feel like my brain and body have been put through a blender mixed with added disbelief, utter hilarity and abject terror… is that… normal? Hello?”

Bloody hell fire… 🤯🤯🤯

Thinking about my beloved friend, teacher and mentor Jerry Granelli on his birthday. A legendary jazz drummer (you hear him every year on Charlie Brown’s Christmas), he was the wisest, kindest, funniest mofo I’ve ever known and ever will. Miss you, Jer, my brother. 😔 🥁

Sing Sing is an open hearted warm devastatingly beautiful film. @colmandomingo.bsky.social is simply sublime. And it makes the most powerful and cogent argument for the importance of the arts for healing and connection I’ve seen for years. See it if you can.
