In the new episode of the How I Library podcast, I'm joined by Dawn Logsdon and Lucie Faulknor, directors of the new documentary, “Free for All: The Public Library,” which premieres tonight, April 29, on PBS. A fascinating talk. Find it at the link in my bio or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Sam Prekop’s first album is Chicago through and through. I remember when it first came out in 1999. I was working at Wizard Records in Cincinnati, and I would listen to it in the mornings, plotting my escape to the city abstractly represented on its cover. This view reminds me of all that.

Happy 137th birthday to the great Boris Karloff. This Mexican lobby card for the 1958 film “Frankenstein 1970” hangs in my office as a daily reminder of his awesomeness. (Karloff stars as the doctor—not the monster—in the film, but that makes the poster even better. I admire a good bait and switch.)

This week, I interviewed author Ryan Dowd about his book, “The Librarian’s Guide to Homelessness: An Empathy-Driven Approach to Solving Problems, Preventing Conflict, and Serving Everyone.” It was a fascinating talk that offered tools to improve all human relations. Find it at ALA’s YouTube page.
