What an effing joke. The goon squad hit Downtown today after a preposterous photo op on the Chicago River yesterday. I don't know all the details, but the photo in this article seems to show a Border Patrol agent detaining a small child. Both puerile and evil.

5/ I'm glad The Guardian made this a top story. However, from the standpoint of totalitarian politics, the government's "request" is not "unusual." It reinforces the compulsory fiction and provides the pretext for further repression.

4/ The "request" posits as fact the propaganda talking point, which itself is subsidiary to the myth/master trope/Big Lie that Trump won in 2020. Simply by issuing the "request," the DOJ reiterates the myth with the authority of the Executive Branch behind it.

2/ Here the "[unusual] request" for information on "non-citizens on voter rolls" reflects the propaganda point that Democrats win elections because they import criminal aliens to vote for them illegally. As the article points out, voter fraud by noncitizens is exceedingly rare.
