Typical to stop testing on pets, but continue with animals the public does not care about nearly as much. Unfortunately, the general public still thinks that this kind of useless research will lead to "The Cure".

If they were able to so quickly stop these experiments, they were clearly useless and only meant to keep the funding money flowing. Just job security for the animal researchers.

Animal labs are safe-havens for sick animal abusers, nicely hidden behind closed doors. At least the victims of abuse by the church, teachers, coaches, doctors were (eventually) able to speak up. Animals do not have that luxury.

Several professions are safe harbors for abusers of animals or humans. People like this shelter worker are even more abundant as well as protected behind closed doors in animal research labs
