If you're able, please send some encouraging words to Kim Joynes. She's an incarcerated survivor of sexual abuse and gender violence that began in childhood. Yesterday she was turned down for commutation of her LWOP sentence by PA Board of Pardons. She's served over 45 years in prison.

Happy birthday Kim Joynes! We're hoping for the gift of a #secondchance from the Board of Pardons in Sept. Kim has been incarcerated 4+ decades for being present at a murder. The murderer was released from prison in the 90s. She has earned the opportunity to be home with her loved ones and family.

Kim Joynes has spent over 4 decades in prison for a murder committed by a man she feared. He was released years ago. She has more than earned a second chance. Today she moved one step closer to getting it. Pardons Board granted her a public hearing for her application for sentence commutation.

Save the date to support a survivor: Destiny Johnson defended her life from her alleged abuser. She is defending it now from prosecutors. She needs all of our support: join us to pack the courtroom on April 25.

Thanks to everyone who came out today to support Destiny Johnson and her family. Destiny decided to plea to voluntary manslaughter rather than risk the possibility of a life sentence. Even though we believe she is 100% not guilty of any charges, we fully support her decision.

Women whose lives are in imminent danger rarely prevail in self-defense claims. Showing up in court is a way you can provide critical support to victims of gender violence. Please join us in court this Thursday (2/20) as we defend Destiny Johnson from a horribly unjust prosecution.

Commutation is often the only way home for incarcerated survivors of gender violence. PA has a dismal record when it comes to commutation in general--even worse when it comes to commutation for survivors. We're tracking gender & commutations. Here's a summary of the outcomes from last week's BoP.
